Albatrellus peckianus (Cke.) Niemela Fruit body annual. Cap up to 5cm across, one or several from a branched base, circular to kidney-shaped, depressed in the center becoming concave then funnel-shaped at maturity, with an acute, inrolled margin; yellowish, drying yellowy tan to pale buff, sometimes with faint concentric bands of color; smooth to minutely scurfy. Tubes up to 2mm deep, decurrent; yellow to light buff. Pores 4-6 per mm, circular to angular; surface bright yellow, drying yellow to light buff. Stem up to 40 x l0mm, central or lateral; yellowish to light buff; minutely felty. Flesh up to 3mm thick; pale yellow to light buff. Spores ovoid to ellipsoid, smooth, 3.5-4.5 x 2.5-3µ. Deposit white. Hyphal structure monomitic; clamps present. Habitat singly to gregarious on the ground or on buried wood such as beech and linden. Found in northeastern North America. Season August-September. Edibility not known. Comment My specimens are rather dry and do not show the good yellow color. |
